How to Dial Into Your REAL "Big Why"!
Almost everyone is familiar with the "Big Why". It's that big reason you keep going even if we don't feel like it. It's the powerful thought you are supposed to think that will magically trigger such a strong emotional response that it will be EASY to say NO when you feel like quitting. But, how many times has your "Big Why" failed to you keep you on track? If you keep falling off your plan over and over again it might be that your Big Why is not quite BIG enough.
What do I mean?
Let's say you are overweight and you have made the decision that eating a ketogenic diet might be the answer to your problem. Your Big Why seems obvious! "I want to lose weight".
But when you are standing in front of the refrigerator after a long crappy day, does this reason stop you from saying "Screw it!" and then grabbing that ice cream you hid in the back of the freezer? Probably not.
When you are tired and cranky and just want some comfort, does the thought "I want to lose weight" stop you? Nope.
So how do you create a BIGGER WHY? How do you find that compelling reason that will instantly tap in to the emotion that compels you to stick to your plan?
Ask WHY FIVE TIMES.
Write down your first WHY and then ask why five more times. This will allow you to dig as deep as you can go to find the real reason that you want this. Here's how it works:
1. Why do you want to live a Keto lifestyle?
Answer: I want to lose weight.
2. Why do you want to lose weight?
Answer: Because I want to feel and look better.
3. Why do you want to feel better and look better?
Answer: Because I am so unhappy with my life as it is. I don't like feeling the pain both emotionally and physically.
4. Why do you want to stop feeling the pain?
Answer: Because my quality of life would greatly improve if the pain was gone.
5. Why do you want your quality of life to improve?
Answer: Because the world will open up for me. I will get much more pleasure out of life if I am healthy and fit.
There it is! The BIG WHY.
So when you have a hard day or a craving and you are tempted to quit on yourself, you have a HUGE REASON WHY you choose to close that freezer door. You can choose the pain of quitting on yourself or the pleasure you are creating in your life. Choose PLEASURE!
This is just one example. You can do this for every new lifestyle change you are trying make.
